PSQUARE BREAK UP

In America, artists actually are fucking wealthy. At least, they are big enough to have a bank agree to finance their living in a multi-million dollar house and lifestyle. If they go broke, then it’s foreclosure. Before then, if they’re lucky, they get to leverage on their status and create more wealth.
So our artists decided to have just the same level of appetite as they do in the U.S, forgetting the unique socio-economic system down here. They are willing to miss out on an opportunity unless you fly them first class. It doesn’t matter if they were MC Hammer broke. They tell you they’re protecting their brand. How you got a brand and you’re broke is beyond me.
Don Jazzy and Olamide fought over a Hyundai SUV which Olamide felt Lil Kesh, his artiste should’ve won. Lil Kesh was quite the dope artists that year, so how come YBNL couldn’t afford an SUV for him? Appears they probably weren’t making as much money as their IG page seemed to suggest.
YCee was on twitter the other day crying about being ripped off from a Sony Music deal he signed. Not long before then, he made the lot of us believe that deal was the best thing in the world. But you know, try to contact any of these guys for an event that might bother on community service or social advocacy of any sort, their managers, who of course have as much inflated ego as them wouldn’t give you more than 10 seconds before hanging up. That too is protecting their brand.
I was in a friend’s office in Abuja last week and a certain artiste called. One of the judges of the voice Nigeria. The request was for another artiste, and how he could be issued a visa in the next 48 hours. I couldn’t believe such an artiste didn’t have the consular section of that country on his speed dial. I wondered what he did with his fame at the height of it. Of course, at the height of his fame, people like my friend won’t even get past his manager, let alone be in a position to help him.
P-Square leaked their own fight video. Not saying the family feud isn’t real, but what could they be trying to gain out of the leak? Makes you wonder. Tiwa and Tee Billz began a hoax feud (trying to be Bey ad Jay) a year before the real fracas that eventually tore them apart. Everybody wants some kind of attention, cuz, Naija, people are way too much into their daily bread to do paparazzi work for you.
They said Banky and his wife kept their relationship on the low, but we all know you can keep anything on the low in Naija because ain’t nobody checking up your personal life. If there is a rumour or gossip about an artist, they fucking leaked it. Everyone wants that media mileage. Because they’re just as desperate for that bread as you.
In a way, I have some sympathy for Nigerian artists. They have to exists in a world where everyone holds them to a certain standard, a very unrealistic one, because we are taken with the American celebrity culture too. Isn’t it why Oge Okoye ripped off a picture of some American celebrity’s dog and called it hers on Instagram? The fucking hell!
Clearly, we get the kind of artists we deserve, complete with their fakeness, and utterly cocooned in their tiny little worlds, until they need people. Still, one must understand that they too are consumed by the overly judgemental society they’ve found themselves.
